Troll Creek Cabernet Sauvignon
Barossa Valley

The fruit for this wine was grown in a single Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard on our Homestead Block at Bethany, on rich black Biscay soil. Cropping at just 2 tonnes an acre, the vines produce small bunches with concentrated, pea-sized berries. Hand-picked and hand-crafted, they make a wine of incredible power and weight which will evolve over the next decade.

Winemaker Comments – Christian Canute
Aged 30 months in new and one-use French (50%) and American (50%) oak, and from a cooler year by Barossa standards, the 2006 is textbook Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon. After a year in the bottle it has really come together and is already a wine which makes a statement. The earthy nose starts with olives and menthol, moving through rhubarb and raspberry jam, and then evolving into a slightly smoked bouquet of plums, cassis and blackberries. The palate is dense and fruity with hints of charred oak, tannins are grippy but fine, and the finish is long, balanced and beautifully textured. Constant evolution in the glass marks this wine as one of the great Troll Creek Cabernet vintages.

Vintage Comments – James Hage, Vigneron
Grown in black Biscay soil over clay on our Bethany Homestead Block, the vines were pruned back to single wire trellis and hand-spurred to 20-25 spurs per vine, yielding just 2 tonnes an acre.
